A series of symbols scanned from the seminal 1970s graphic design text The Symbol Sourcebook by Henry Dreyfuss, and paired with new provocative titles. Layout as two columns is loosely narrative, the first illustrating the state of global power and the second the common person’s personal and political struggles within it.
The piece as two 6-foot tall posters were installed in the front windows at CityPOP Egleston, 3195 Washington Street in Jamaica Plain until May 2017, then were re-installed in the front windows of the artist-activist hub Make Shift Boston, 549 Columbus Avenue in the South End. Other 6-foot prints of this work have been exhibited at MassArt for the “Resistance Culture” group show, in the group show “Tremors” at Point Green Studio in Brooklyn, NY, and at Jameson & Thompson Fine Art Services in Jamaica Plain. A 12″ x 18″ poster version of this work along with two sequel zine projects, Bad Idea and Liberalism vs. Progressivism, were included in the group show “Shhh…” at the Arts + Literature Laboratory in Madison, WI.
Artwork is available as a zine or 12″x 18″ poster; select individual symbol/title pairings are available as T-shirts, stickers or patches.
